Clusel-Roch Côte-Rôtie 2016

Côte-Rôtie means 'roasted slope' because it gets so much sunshine. It's located in the Northern Rhone and its dominated by the red grape syrah though growers are allowed to add small amounts of the white grape viognier to their Côte-Rôtie. This example is made from 95% syrah with 5% viognier, the vines are planted together and the grapes are fermented together with some whole bunches, stems and all, thrown in. This adds freshness and spiciness. Its aged in oak barrels with around 15% new oak. Though still quite young, this is already showing the haunting perfume that these wines are famous for. With the right food like roast lamb, this should be spectacular.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Meaty nose with bacon, olives, raspberries and violets, the palate is fresh and floral with plenty of fresh fruit alongside savoury notes like black olive and spice.
