A lovely fruity release from the Walsh distillery in south east Ireland, Writers Tears Red Head was named so because of its inviting shade of amber, we assume. The no age statement single malt has been matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry casks, and is bottled without chill filtering at 46% ABV.
Candied orange peel, chocolate covered marzipan, sherried dried fruit, and praline and tropical fruit.
An oily nuttiness, with fruity Christmas cake, tangy pineapple, liquorice and melted milk chocolate.
Rich walnut with oak and baking spice lingering.
Received as a fathers day present it proved an inspired gift and all too easy to drink. Sadly, a second bottle bought later was unable match it and I have been unable to find another to give it the chance to redeem itself. I hope Walsh can recreate it as I'd be first in line to buy.
