Wormtub 12 Year Old Single Cask

Wonderful, wonderful Wormtub Whisky! Worm tubs hark back to the days of old, you don't see many of them around in modern-day distilleries but thankfully a few have retained these old-school bits of condensing kit, favouring the robust, heavy whiskies that they help to produce. This is a single cask batch of Wormtub 12 Year Old, a splendid Speyside single malt that finished its maturation in a first-fill oloroso sherry hogshead and bottled at cask strength, without added colour or chill filtration.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Big, bold sherry character shines, with juicy sultanas, candied orange wheels, and sweetly spiced fruit loaf.

    Palate

Roasted, candied walnuts and oily malt lead to meaty notes of spiced biltong, rich oak, and sherry-soaked dried fruits.

    Finish

Sherried oak lingers on alongside that meaty, juicy malt, with savoury notes of fennel and spice in tow.

    Nice

Over my expectations, and good price. Worth to be a daily drink.

    Abunadh of old!

Reminds me of a late 30/early 40 Batch of Aberlour Abunadh (in my opinion - the pinnacle of quality) before the quality went drastically off and the price went up. The wormtub 12 has spent good time in virgin Olorosso, so if you like a heavy sherried influence this is for you. Perhaps even deeper influence than Abunadh of old. Upon opening the alcohol can be a bit harsh, but after a week of exposure this settles down really well. Lots of complexity, a lil water will open her up to long finishes!

Slight harshness on opening. Settles down to a lovely seer sherried dram that packs a punch.

This is a fantastic dram. Add a splash of water and enjoy. Sherry notes to the max.

    Aberlour & Mortlach look out!!

Somewhere between an old a’bundah and Mortlach 16yr old. Doesn’t need much water for a 58.3% fantastic cask involvement, burnt hazelnuts and toffee apple on pallet. Smooth finish like an expensive cognac.
