A late 2017 addition to Wolfburn's core range, Morven is a lightly peated single malt from the northernmost distillery in mainland Scotland. This expression rounds out the distillery's range well (which also features their signature Northland Single Malt and the handsomely Sherried Aurora Single Malt) and shows that the relatively new distillery has plenty to offer already.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Fresh notes of juicy apple and white grape are deliciously juxtaposed with earthy, mineral-y peat.

Palate

Nutty malt pairs well with soft smoke, joined by peppered oak and caramelised fruit developing later on.

Finish

Sweet hints of shortbread and ginger stick around on the finish.

Lightly smoky easy drinker

A pleasant light smokiness and woodiness makes it very easy to drink. It lingers on and has very little fire. Nice.

Quite horrible

Not much color, well at least it is honestly young. Adding artificial color wouldn't make it any better really, so one star goes out for honesty. First the nose. Hardly anything there. I had a range of other whiskys next to this, and they had a rich nose but this one didn't really give anything but alcohol vapours up my nose. I went back to the other alternatives and tried the Wolfburn again, but there was nothing. Taste is raw. Too young, just a punch in your face: here comes the booze. The finish gives a shiver, and I was always happy that it ended finally. Probably the worst whisky tasting experience I have ever had, and I would never ever spend my money on this. Give me a bottle of that good old Laphroaig 18yo or a Lagavulin 16yo, or some Glenmorangie.. I'll gladly pay the difference. Second star goes out for being properly strong. This is simply young and raw booze, nothing more.

Skeptical

As good as this may be it’s still a £50 bottle of 3 - 4 year old whisky. Surely the price needs to be adjusted.

Another fine release from Wolfburn

Wolfburn Morven 46% vol. Lightly Peated 10ppm Nose: there is smoke for sure, but gentle, more tangible than in Northland and a bit different, then a lot of caramel-fudge, initially the least fruit of all three, roasted malt, hay, grass, earthy note, honey in the background, salted caramel, heather , after a while, grapes and an apple Taste: roasted malt, smoke, hay, nuts, roasted caramel, vanilla, roasted apple, some salt Finish: sweet, earthy and slightly smoky Another solid single malt, intense in taste, perhaps less aromatic than Aurora or Northland, mainly salty caramel and smoke, but very interesting.
