Wolfburn Aurora Bottling Note

A late 2016 release from the Wolfburn distillery, matured in a combination of casks - 40% of this whisky was aged in second-fill quarter casks, 40% in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and 20% in first-fill Oloroso Sherry hogsheads. An exciting release from the distillery.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Almonds and pecans, with a wave of sweet, sticky Sherry notes.

Palate: Raisins, currants, more mixed nuts and fresh barley.

Finish: Lingering Sherried spice on the finish.

Wolfburn Aurora Single Malt Reviews

Great

I just had a daughter we named Aurora, a good friend of mine bought this liquor as a baby shower gift, I have to say this is one of the better whiskeys I have had for the price very smooth easy taste with a very nice pleasant finish I would recommend this to anybody.

Wolfburn in good shape

Wolfburn Aurora 46% vol. Sherry Oak

Maturation: 40% second-fill quarter cask of, 40% first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels, 20% first-fill Oloroso Sherry hogsheads

Nose: note of dark chocolate, raisins in chocolate, cherries in chocolate, fruit, hints of coffee, malty, coconut chips (at least for a moment), pleasant and quite complex, nice balance

Taste: dried fruit, bittersweet, nut mix, sherry notes, fruit jam, barrel, malt, warming, nicely hidden alcohol, all delicate, not overwhelming

Finish: quite long, warming, fruity with a hint of honey and spices

Very good dram, again young but nicely composed, notes of sherry are delicate, do not dominate the distillate, we do not have smoke here, it is fruity, honey and pleasantly sweet, but definitely not liqueur, very balanced sweetness.

Young but great

Tried it in an event yesterday and bought a bottle. Surprisingly good for such a young whisky but I believe is a little expensive given the fact for this price I can buy an older single malt of well established distilleries.

Overpriced - reminds me of a decent tequila though

Overpriced. Comes off like a good sipping tequila, which it is not. Too harsh.

One of my favourites

One of the best young whiskies I've ever tried...

Exciting times

Glad I've tried this whisky. Extremely young, all I get on the nose is cereal but I agree with the MoM pro's regarding the pecan.

Not as harsh on the pallet and the finish is extremely long which I enjoy in a whisky.

I'm seriously looking forward to what is produced by wolfburn in the future, especially any aged releases.

Great whisky!

Great whiksy!

Smooth, sweet, balanced, lovely

One of the best non-age statement whiskies I've tried. Beautiful sweet nose, balanced palate with honey/almond/vanilla tones over the sherry-cask sweetness, then a rounded and lingering finish. Difficult to fault in any way. Well done Wolfburn!

Great expression

What a wonderful find. More of what I like from there first expression in this deeper, richer and satisfying expression. Highly recommended and both bottles I have from Wolfburn are becoming my 'go to' whisky. They are definitely on to something up there!

Very much worth sharing

Tried this on a whim as I had heard so much about the young whisky that was making waves. Wow and worth the punt. Yes it's young but you can taste what this is going to be and already is in the complexity and the nose. Nice that the guys are non chill filtering or colouring and releasing it this way and even at this age and at 46% you think otherwise. Great whisky, great things to come and already happening. Would have loved to tried the three year before it became four.
