WhistlePig is a fantastic brand of straight rye whisk(e)y which is distilled and initially matured in Canada before being aged further, at the WhistlePig Farm in Vermont. This 10 year old straight rye is made with 100% rye and delivers a full-on flavour profile of clove, mint, barrel char, creamy caramels and butterscotch. Properly excellent stuff.
Fresh peppermint and herbal thyme initially, with sweet vanilla and marzipan developing. Creamy butterscotch, raspberry jam and orange rind round it off.
Warm baking spices, nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice burst to life and are tempered by sweet muscovado sugar, bright oak and dark chocolate. Vanilla cola and caramel shortbread linger.
Medium-length, with warm rye spices, sweet malt and sour cherries.

This is a Rye that doesn't need a mixer. The bold and rich nature of this dram is best appreciated by itself. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and oak appear first and then give way to the sweeter side of vanilla, caramel, honey and end with a nice long spiciness. Very good and enjoyable.
Who cares where it's from, the liquid is smooth, rich and balanced. Go-to-choice for an Old Fashioned anytime. There's a reason you don't get many 10 year aged ryes out there and it's because they can't do it as well as these guys.
DISCLAIMER: So by now I'm sure most of us know this is a Canadian Rye Whiskey labelled as a Vermont Whiskey (if not, now you know). For that reason I shall give it a low rating and advise everyone to search for a bottle of Alberta Premium as that is what i am told this is. Now that that is out of the way allow me to say how magnificently amazing this whiskey is! Old book, dirt, mint, herbs, spices, sweet spicy malts. It's an amazing thing. If you can get a bottle of Alberta premium, please do so. If not, grab this as I did.
