WhistlePig is a fantastic brand of straight rye whisk(e)y which is distilled and initially matured in Canada before being aged further, at the WhistlePig Farm in Vermont. This 10 year old straight rye is made with 100% rye and delivers a full-on flavour profile of clove, mint, barrel char, creamy caramels and butterscotch. Properly excellent stuff.
Fresh peppermint and herbal thyme initially, with sweet vanilla and marzipan developing. Creamy butterscotch, raspberry jam and orange rind round it off.
Warm baking spices, nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice burst to life and are tempered by sweet muscovado sugar, bright oak and dark chocolate. Vanilla cola and caramel shortbread linger.
Medium-length, with warm rye spices, sweet malt and sour cherries.

I really enjoy heavily caramelized tasting whiskeys, but sometimes I would love something a bit lighter & brighter - this hits you up front with a bit of cinnamon/clove and I pick up a bit of apple. Smooth - sweet - not at all syrupy. Thin bodied, but very nice.
Sweet rye on the nose. An intersesting balance of sweetness and dryness on the tongue. an enjoyable discovery.
Lovely!!!! Complex, spicy, sweet, fruity... Tons of flavours. Really lush whisky.
This is a response to those complaining about this being one thing and labeled as something else. The back label clearly says that it's a product of Canada and aged and bottled in VT. What's the problem? "You're told" that it's the same as Alberta Premium? Do you always believe what you're "told"? Even if this is the same distillate, if it's aged elsewhere, selected by someone else, it becomes something different. Aging is a very big part of flavor - not just individuality of each barrel but also where the barrel "lives" during the years. Their website also talks about "rescuing" this stock that was intended for blending. I see nothing unethical on the labels. And it's nice that at least some of this will be sipped from a Glencairn vs. being drowned in cola or used to melt ice. Canada does make some great rye. Hopefully this will help bring more pure rye to market and reduce prices and improve selection :) Now, I do think this is a bit overpriced, but anyone is free to charge what they want and all are free to pay or not pay the asked price.
I love it!! The flavor is consistent & pleasing. This is a must!!
