Tomatin
Scotland
Single Malt
Master of Malt exclusive!
Check it out, Master of Malt (yep, us!) has got a single cask Tomatin all its own! The single malt was distilled on 16 January 2008, and left in a single first-fill bourbon cask for over a decade. At 11 years old, the Highlander was bottled on 9 September 2019, with a release of 234 limited bottles at 60% ABV. This is a wonderfully honeyed affair.
Wonderfully creamy and sweet, a big hit of honey straight off, with cinnamon French toast, a musky sandalwood undertone, buttery caramel and heaps of fresh vanilla custard.
Not as sweet as the nose may suggest, with an aromatic herbaceous note alongside savoury, freshly baked wholewheat bread, with a hint of pineapple jam.
Somewhat drying and distinctly woody, though a warming spiciness appears with more of that rich, velvety honey and just a touch of treacle.
Tasting notes are spot on. This is a soft but complex whisky. Oaky, spicy finish is good and very smooth despite being very strong.
Tomatin is a distillery I like and I took a chance on one of these MoM bottlings... This is strong cask strength stuff at 60%, and for me needs water. After sitting for 5 mins with water its a nice honey=ed and vanilla dram with plenty spice in the mouth and finish.. a bit drying at the cask strength but much better at a bit under 50.. Very enjoyable dram this and goes a long way. struth
