Tobermory
Scotland
Single Malt
Released in early 2019, this 12 year old single malt from Tobermory was launched in celebration of the distillery returning to life after a two year break! This expression slumbered peacefully in American oak casks for a dozen years before being bottled at 46.3% ABV. What a way to get back in the swing of things!
Pear, peach and apple, with a dusting of brown sugar. Greek yogurt, barley and a hint of cinnamon pastries.
Rounded malt notes once again, now a touch oily. Still packs a hearty helping of stone fruit sweetness.
A flash of orange peel, soft sawdust, toffee and dates.
Cognac-like, distinctly. Sweet and syrupy. Grape-like. Zesty. Fruity. Decanter scotch, and that's complementary.
I was a big fan of the easy-drinking 10 yo, which I've missed, but the 12 yo has not disappointed. Orchard fruits with a touch of citrus, spice and caramel to finish. Lovely.
New to whiskey , and a step up from the generic type. This is my first proper whiskey as does not fail , it literally blew me away it’s so tasty and I could smell it all night long ....mmmm !!
Some caramel and sea salt and a little vanilla further in...Quite creamy with pears and a touch of spice initially . Then the peppery spice kicks in, but keeps the fruitiness in tandem and moves to finish of a slighty sour but zingy finale. finish is medium long, and the fruit is always there to help balance the pepper. rather good this actually; im impressed as its first Tobermory ive had for a good while and wasnt overly taken with their 10yr old. no water needed imo and the more you drink the better it tastes... i dare say that makes it moreish. struth
This is a favourite of mine, never disappoints. Wonderful complexity for its age, simply delicious. On my fourth bottle atm, will be back for more.
