Single Malt
Released in early 2019, this 12 year old single malt from Tobermory was launched in celebration of the distillery returning to life after a two year break! This expression slumbered peacefully in American oak casks for a dozen years before being bottled at 46.3% ABV. What a way to get back in the swing of things!
Pear, peach and apple, with a dusting of brown sugar. Greek yogurt, barley and a hint of cinnamon pastries.
Rounded malt notes once again, now a touch oily. Still packs a hearty helping of stone fruit sweetness.
A flash of orange peel, soft sawdust, toffee and dates.
Very distinctive coastal elements for me. Salty seaweed, samphire and then so many other elements as well. I’ve only just opened the bottle and I love it but think it’s going to be a voyage of discovery as I go through the rest. Very impressed.
It’s just gorgeous.
Pineapple - red apples - zesty oranges - lemon juice. Grapes. Thick heavy salty caramel. Heavy red licorice. Pakistani cooking, various - Nan bread. Thai food - various. Honey. Bread sticks. Greek cooking spices ( something decidedly Greek in there, i agree with that ). Blood orange note. Honey melon. Coats the glass - thick. Gets zestier with aeration. Crisp citrusy palate, not quite as deep as the nose. Grapefruit. Lime, by and by. Cocoa powder - milk chocolate. Kiwi. Plums, plum wine. Red berries - juicy ripe strawberries in the back there. Fresh garlic? Very soft mild ginger, nutmeg. Cardamon. Oak nuts. Pistachios. Neck pour, 45 mins in the glass. Lovely.
Fabulous whisky......one of my favourites. My wife has ordered me the 12 year old port finish for Christmas from Master of malt.
This took me a few drams to get into so perhaps it needs a little air or it just grew on me. Whatever the reason, I absolutely love it now and think its amongst my favourite 12 year old expressions.
