    Timorous Beastie

Joining the ranks of Big Peat and Scallywag is Douglas Laing's Timorous Beastie, a blended malt made entirely of Highland whiskies from distilleries such as Dalmore, Glen Garioch, Glengoyne and more. The name is a nod to the Robert Burns poem 'To a Mouse' and to Burns' wit, as though the mouse in the poem is a timid little thing, this whisky is nothing of the sort!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Acacia honey, creamy boiled sweeties (the strawberry flavour), dried apricots and white grapes. There's a good whack of Sherry influence in here too! A whiff of coastal air and classic Highland heather, too.

    Palate

Dried fruits, green apples and anise. Sweet grist and malt loaf. Pebble beaches and more heather on the mid palate.

    Finish

Long. Drying with hot cinnamon sweeties and fresh bread.

    Overall

Who are you calling timorous? This beastie is big, brave and an absolute blast!

    Tasty and satisfying

Nothing timorous but quite a lot of (nice) beastie. Gentle and eat to drink but with lots of tastes that linger in the curiosity. A good drink to pass round the table with people who think they don't like whiskey! Bige taste, imo, than Scallywag.

    Enjoyed tremendously

What a marvellous highland malt! I thoroughly enjoyed this Scotch which is full of everything I'd look for in an impactful high strength and not chill filtered whisky.

    A hefty Highland Malt... delicious

A beast of a Scotch. A great "wee" highlander. Loads of buttery honey, warm sponge and vanilla custard. Utterly delicious. I'll be buying a second bottle for sure.

always a bonus to find something like this

Had no idea about this cheeky chap, tried it, want it, will buy more...I can only imagine the low scoring stars may have been influenced by a tainted pallet. It's complex, multilayered and doesn't give in after several drams. Certainly honey lemon toffee but not overtly sweet - the strength suggests finding a water drop that suits you - it continues to offer depth with more than I'd usually add. A great blend (yes a blend) that will become a resident in the collection - great packaging design too for those that admire fine illustration.

Perhaps I had a duff bottle

Bears more than a passing resemblance to Sadiqi, the home-distilled ethyl alcohol which, mixed with 7-up, we drank to numb our minds in Kuwait back in the ‘60’s. Delivers the same cracking headache, too. While this hooch might possibly be a nostalgia trip for aging Gulfers, for anyone else it’s just alcoholic sugar water, with a (very) faint hint of vanilla. I did try a couple of other Malts from the fridge, just to see whether I’d suddenly lost my sense of taste and smell – thankfully, they were their usual delicious selves. Perhaps I simply had a duff bottle.
