Thomson 5 Year Old 2019 Bourbon Cask - The Heart Cut #18
This single cask release from New Zealand’s Thomson Distillery was distilled from 100% New Zealand barley, smoked with native manuka wood, and matured in a bourbon cask. It’s smoky whisky — but not as you know it.
Instead of peat, the manuka smoke gives the spirit a resinous, peppery, and deeply herbal edge, balanced by citrus sweetness and bright tropical fruit. Only 270 bottles exist, bottled at a robust 50.8% ABV, making this a rare glimpse into New Zealand’s most distinctive style of single malt.

Nose
Charred wood, lemon sherbet, and pineapple chews, with a wisp of honeyed smoke.
Palate
Oily and resinous, with manuka spice, barley sugar, and nectarine brightness.
Finish
Long and smoky, with pepper, clove, and a hint of sweet citrus peel.
