This is an 8 year old Irish single malt whiskey from The Quiet Man range, finished in first-fill bourbon barrels. The name doesn't come from the John Wayne film, but from the father of the brand owner, a bartender who heard many stories when behind the bar but told no tales.
Honey, sharp apple, white oak, fudge.
Toffee apple, pear, thick vanilla and orange peels.
Light vegetal oak, brown sugar, ginger snaps.

Better than the blended version. Probably better than JW Red or Black, but most other half decent Irish whiskeys are much better.
Ok not great but I’ve had a lot worse!
Normally I choose singles from Scotland's west coast, in particular from Skye or Islay. However, in 2017 I attended a show in Aberdeen where I was given a sample of Quiet Man. I preferred the 8 year old of those tested. To me it's taste was really different with a "refreshing" effect. Recommend it.
