When Ciaran Mulgrew decided to make his own whiskey, there was only one person he could name it after, and that was his father, John Mulgrew. John was a bartender of 50 years who, of course, heard many stories during his time behind the bar but, in keeping with the barman’s code, never peeped a word about any of them! Thus, it was named The Quiet Man, or ‘An Fear Ciuin’ in Irish. In 2015, The Quiet Man was the first whiskey bottled in Derry in over a century, and in early 2017 plans for the brand’s own distillery got the green light.
