The jewel in the crown of The Macallan's 1824 Series is erm, a Ruby! With the darkest hue in a no age statement range where colour is king, Ruby has spent the longest time in only the very finest sherry casks. The colour has been taken on naturally with no artificial colouring.

I've been trying to find this bottle for a while. I had forgotten that I have two sample bottles two tucked away in my closet. It was a nice pour, but not what I excepted. I already ordered me a bottle. I still stand by my "GLENLIVET."
I've read this a few times, so I'll just add to the noise: Rather synthetic. Well-engineered to do what sherry is supposed to, but lacks artisanal depth (-1 star). Stupidly overpriced subtracts 2 stars. Rather go for the Balblair 90, Glendronach 18yo or Glenfarclas 17yo. Sorry Macallan, but I know you can do better.
The first time I tasted this I absolutely loved it.. That was back before I had really developed my palate and my standard for excellence didn't go past Johnny walker black, and laphroaig quarter cask. Now a year and a half + 39 different scotches tried including the macallan 18 I have come to the realization that it has failed completely in that it doesn't have complexity, it tastes like it was created by a team of chemical engineers for the next generation of idiots who would rather have a scotch that compares more to spiced rum than it does to the beauty of a scotch that spends decades of maturation to gain the natural complexity, and balance that make all the wonderful tasting notes tie together into something worth reverence.
Its a vers rich and full sherry whiskey. I would assume a mixture of relatively young first fill sherry and some bourbon and elder first fill sherry casks to add some depth. But for that price there has to be more. It tastes synthetic, the taste is constructed to sherryness, and lacks the depth and richness of the older macallans. No age statement as a way to make as much money as possible as quick as possible out of good, but not excellent whisky. Misses character, just shows off with sherry... But nothing behind it.
Color doesn't tell you anything about the whisky. this is just A way to Sell immature overpriced whisky which is very much the case with this one. you can get much better stuff for the same price. go for age statement whiskeys then you have a much better idea what kind of Quality is in the bottle
