The Half-Century Blend #2 Bottling Note

The Half Century Blend from The Blended Whisky Company displays a reverence for the era of whisky production where though production methods were not as efficient, the resulting whisky was simply stunning. Flavour was king, not yield. In honour of those days, The Half Century Blend is made exclusively with whisky aged for over 50 years, which has resulted in an astounding flavour profile that lives up to the storied age of whisky-making.

Batch 2 is a release of 228 bottles.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Ripe apple, the darkest of dark chocolate, salt dough and a leathery note. As time goes on there’s a rich blackcurrant jam, coconut, an intense chocolate nuttiness, orange oil furniture polish, and a touch of Extra Strong Mint.

Palate: An amazingly luxurious, velvety mouthfeel. All the decadence of a Parisian chocolaterie with added coffee notes, unctuous dark fruits, and a nutty caramel.

Finish: Long and oh-so luxurious. Like the fanciest, creamiest chocolate dessert. Divine.

Overall: So much life and luxury for liquid that’s been in cask for 50 (FIFTY!) years!

Half-Century Blend - Batch 2 Reviews

Nevada Camel

I'm usually a single-malt drinker. I tend to think of blended whiskys as long on flavor, but having no character. This whisky made a believer out of me. Stunning is right! It goes down like liquid teflon, it's so smooth. The tasting notes are right on, add in some figs, over-ripe cherries, a hint of fine tobacco, some Oregon Huckleberry. At less than $700 US, this is a bargain.

Stunning

Simply stunning. This whiskey is abound with complexity and depth but so silky smooth on the palate. Expensive for sure, but worth the money...definitely.

Wickedly Incredible

The Half-Century Blend, Batch 2

Retailing at an eye-watering £599 per bottle, last years sample of the first batch of this had me in paroxysms of delight that might have made a naughty nun blush.

Move over Commander Ivanova, so long Kira Nerys

(Okay, not Kira...)

But ye ken whit I’m spraffin aboot.

This is blended exclusively from Whiskies that have been aged for 50 years or more. Every one of them has been in a barrel, happily maturing for at least a decade longer than I’ve been alive.

Oh baby.

The nose is rich dark chocolate and orange, as if someone had made Chocolate Orange out of the really good stuff, and blackcurrant, with a whiff of ocean air. I’m getting a fruity brandy butter too, on the edges.

The palate has a huge amount to say, this is a philosopher with a cheroot and an espresso going really deep into the human condition (of inebriation). The rich dark chocolate notes from the nose are carried through into an almost wicked melange of caramel and nuts and that espresso, with just a little of the thickness of bourbon. The burn comes late, but it’s an added flair that settles quickly into more chocolate meltingness.

Meltingness. It’s a word. I bet it is.

Just incredible.
