That Boutique-y Whisky Company has got another brilliant batch of its Japanese Blended Whisky #1 ready! The fifth batch is an extraordinary 21 year old expression, packing oodles of red fruit, gingerbread and salted butter notes, alongside wafts of fresh florals and nutty oak.
Batch 5 is a release of 3,257 bottles.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blended malts and blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
Plenty of sherried funk at first, with hazelnut, dark chocolate, ripe blackcurrants, soft peaches and Christmas pudding. Lean gamey savouriness and a touch of spent firework keeps things interesting. A powerful hit of warm out of the oven gingerbread is joined in the backdrop by sweet tobacco, waxy leather and browning apples.
A ripe and refined mix of red and black fruits initially, followed by cherry cola, dried orange peel and creamy fudge. Nutty oak, exotic honey and bittersweet herbs develop, alongside winter spice and cherry blossom.
Dried mint and thyme linger among salty butter and resinous sherry notes.
Generous, elegant and rewarding on every return. This is serious stuff.
Wasn’t that good. I love Japanese whisky and as everyone knows they don’t generally invent things but they are absolutely the finest and best at refining and improving invented things from everything to engineering to whisky and cars and motorbikes. They are tinkerers alike me who likes nothing better to sit in my machine workshop on my lathe or milling machine building engines to superchargers and turbo charges. I’d be a silky man if I didn’t think that age and time doesn’t refine whisky rather like me but in this case it’s not a Yamazaki 18 Year old nor is it a hens teeth rare 21. Sadly in my opinion it’s not worthy it’s age statement I’d hesitate to give this 3 stars it’s not a whisky from a famed distillery nor is it a top tier Japanese whisky it’s still nice and very drinkable but those palate tasting notes by Master Of Malt just are way off. Perhaps they only had a little taste and didn’t really get to know this whisky. I feel like a worm on a fishing hook at this point. Hooked line and sinker.
