Sorry about this...

Blended Whisky #1 50yo #5 Bottling Note

Another batch of That Boutique-y Whisky Company's award-winning, fantastically well-rounded Blended Whisky #1 has arrived! As if that's not already exciting enough, this particular batch is a 50 year old!!! Five decades of maturation have imparted a rich, chocolatey character upon the Scotch whiskies within this blend, and deft hands have used them to create an incredible expression. Deft, gloved, disembodied, floating space hands... Or is that part of the metaphor?

Batch 5 is a release of 2,000 bottles.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, bourbons, blended malts and blends from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic-novel-style labels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Round and quite rich, as is to be expected with these releases. Chocolate cornflake cakes or choc chip Weetabix Crispy Minis with fragrant sultana and white grape. Crème brûlée throughout.

Palate: Black treacle and a little gypsy tart (evaporated milk and muscovado) with a fruity plum wine and sweet anise edge.

Finish: Liquorice. A touch of cocoa also but unmistakably liquorice lingers on a long finish.

Blended Whisky #1 50 Year Old - Batch 5 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) Reviews

Very nice dram

needs a good 20 minutes or so to develop in the glass but then its really nice with greath lenght.
love the hint of fennel or anise if you will with the liquorice finish. A classic pairing nice balance.

Not good

Very disappointed. Tasted chemically & a little harsh. certainly not as smooth as others seem to suggest. Tried hundreds of whisky's over the years & this was a big let down, especially as it was a gift for a 50th.

Superb Dram

Superbly complex dram with subtle chocolatey notes, lovely long finish with myriad notes and tones. Well worth every penny. Another ordered.

Hopes down...

Bought this whisky for my club once it came out, and thought we got a great bargain, a 50yo for under €200!!
The whisky per se is not too bad but it feels a little underwhelming... For that price (if it was a regular size bottle is would be €250) you can get much greater whiskies!
Anyway we will enjoy those few drams left until the next 50yo (probably will never afford one again)...

Excellent with great balance and complexity

The maturity brings out chocolate and caramel tones. Great value for a half century whisky!

One of the finest

One of the finest Scotch Whiskys I have ever tasted. Top marks.

Worth every penny!

I really enjoy this release. It opens up tremendously once given some air. Highly recommend as I ended up buying 5 more of these beauties.

Beautiful stuff, for about 1% of the price you'd ever see it for from any of the big boys. +1

Really good and much better then I thought!

Unbelievable Price

I must say that I was a bit skeptical at first, but this truly is a phenomenal whisky and I will be stocking up some more!

Absolutely delicious. 5 Stars.

Amazing $160 bottle, Mediocre 50yr bottle.

Amazing nose, then all downhill from there. It's clearly a blend of both grain and malt, I am assuming more then half grain after trying it once. Nothing wrong with that per sea, but the flavor doesn't live up to the nose. 3.5 stars

Stunning depth. Good nose, great arrival and the finish is lovely. Beautifully balanced, I took a second bottle.

Truly great whisky, great balance and complexity, I'm buying a second bottle.

Insanely good

This would be incredible at ten times the price - which is exactly what you'd be paying if it were released by anyone else. Just fantastic.

Dumb and Dumber

I'm giving this a five star review to balance out the complete moron who wrote, "not much age showed -
Could have been better", and the other one who wrote, "OK - OK". Don't post here if you aren't going to put ANY real feedback that help consumers like ME that use them to review before actually purchasing!

Great value aged scotch

creamy candy floss tasting, luscious mouthfeel, an exceptional value in my mind

Epic. Simply epic.

The structure, balance, and poise of this whisky is nothing less than legendary. I've tried a couple of the previous releases in this '#1' series from TBWC, but this is head and shoulders above the rest. The tasting notes don't do it justice - there's a huge amount of richness, rancio, and, yes, that Creme Brulee is spot on. Absolutely love the imagery too.
