Reviews for Suntory Kakubin Yellow Label
Ridiculous value, if you live in East Asia that is.
I'm tempted to give it 5 stars for it's ridiculous value. You can get the 700ml for less than 13 USD in supermarkets here in Taiwan, you'd probably be able to get it for even cheaper in Japan. Completely inoffensive, balanced "cheap" whiskey that actually tastes pleasant. Unfortunately, the pricing of the yellow label out of Asia is just not worth it. I'd say 25-30 Would be the highest I'd be willing to pay for it.

Not the Champagne of whiskey. It's the Champagne of cheap whiskey
This is the ubiquitous "whino whiskey" in Japan. It's available in every convenience store. When you are in areas with a lot of homeless people, you can smell the whiskey where they choose to urinate.

That being said, it is an amazing value in Japan. It is a great whiskey in a highball or even straight. Keep in mind that in Japan it costs less than $30 USD for the 700 ml bottle. And it's worth every penny.

This HAS to breathe
Update
If you strongly aerate this whisky it opens up a lot. Still not a classic but it becomes much softer and sweeter and less harsh. I use a Villeroy&Boch whisky glass and spend 40s or so whisking with chopsticks. It makes a big difference.

Just not good enough
This actually isn't very good. It's too harsh, with practically no body. It has a nice mouthfeel but no aftertaste apart from very young grain whisky. If you don't drink whisky straight, it'll probably be OK. The alcohol burn might actually increase the flavour of a whisky and coke for example. But for drinking as whisky should be drunk, it will satisfy only the least discerning palate.

Japanese Daniels
reminiscent of Jack Daniels, great as a spirit base for cocktails but weak on its own. Not to mention the price hike, not worth more than a tenner a bottle.

Only good for mixing with soda. even Highball taste awful. Japs cheap drink
Cheap shit from Japan. I was in Tokyo and I saw a gallon size of this shit at local store. Japanese people mix this shit with soda in large jug to drink it like Gatorade. Tastes like old rug with sweetener.

The Jokes on you if you Didn't Highball
This is the standard whisky used in Japanese highball. If you ever go to Tokyo you can enjoy this expression in a special Kakubin Mug with plenty of perfect chipped ice and soda..The Japanese are ice perfectionists and do not disappoint 😁😁✌🏽

Not bad....let it oxidise a bit.
This stuff really works if you open it, then forget about it for a couple of months. When you try it again the grain alcohol dominance will have dissipated and you will find a fairly rich, sweet, well structured classic Japanese whisky. Granted I wouldn't pay 60 pounds for this. I paid 10 at the off licence in the UAE, which makes it bargain. But it's clearly overpriced in the UK, but it's not as bad as I thought it was when I first cracked it open....

Great with Soda
Makes a fantastically refreshing highball with loads of ice. One of my favourite drinks.
