All the way from Melbourne, Australia comes Starward Left-Field, a fab single malt whisky that was designed to be enjoyed... Well, however you fancy! A rounded and flavoursome expression, having matured in Australian red wine barrels, Left-Field shows off generous helpings of dried fruit, maple syrup, and baking spice notes. Enjoy neat, with a mixer, splash it in a cocktail – it's a versatile whisky suitable for all sorts of serves!
Fruity notes come from tannic red apple skin, strawberry laces, apricot jam, orange peel, fresh raspberries and mango slices in juice. Alongside them is a dusting of cacao powder, oaky vanilla, ginger beer, a little charred chilli pepper, then demerara sugar, maple syrup, nougat and milky coffee. Around the edges, toasted almonds and marzipan make an appearance, with some fresh nutmeg grated on top for good measure.
Through a core of winey-woodiness, there’s PX-soaked sultanas, ginger cake, more of that beautiful mealy maltiness and some tartness from cherries and cranberries. There’s also blackcurrants, dark chocolate and liquorice, as well as rye bread, stewed orchard fruit, aniseed and caramel.
Some of those tropical and darker fruit notes echo into the finish, which also has a tang of balsamic vinegar, a sprightly touch of peppermint and more of that red wine funk.

Have had Starward whisky before & liked the Aussie Red Wine Taste This one has been in French red wine casks so obviously still experimenting . Think they should stick with the Aussie Red but this IS a good substitute
This has no flavour, and no age statement. The two go together. The 23 quid 8yo Waitrose blend has more character. Tastes like watered down one year old blandness.
My first experience of Australian whisky - probably not my last. A lovely fruity nose, and the exceptionally smooth character makes it very drinkable. Maybe a bit too drinkable! ? Got this as a freebie from WhiskySanta, and very nice it is too.
Candied citrus peel, and stewed stone fruits with almond, delicious to sip and great whisky to make cocktails with.
I enjoy the Starward Nova expression, so I thought I'd give this a try. Fruit and spice, but it lacks any real complexity. An easy-drinking dram but nothing to write home about. I probably wouldn't buy again.
