You don't see official bottlings of St. Magdalene single malt Scotch whisky much these days, as the distillery was closed down all the way back in 1983. This rare whisky was distilled in 1979 and bottled some time during the late 1990s. It has been released as part of Diageo's Rare Malts Series, a collection that always catches the eye of the whisky historians out there. This is bottle number 2143.

Huge maltiness, vanilla and butter, multigrain bread, blackboard chalk, hint of fresh cherries, fresh coffee cream. the palate is incredibly rich and vibrant, with warm bread dough, heather, oatmeal with honey, chamomile tea, lemon meringue, denim, eucalyptus, herbal cough drops, pie crust and old lace. this one will leave you practically speechless

i've only had a sample but this is an amazing experience. Sweet and malty, lots of citrus, almonds, lovely toffee, bags of spices - a larder full, you name them there in here. Its the complexity thats breathtaking, every sip another layer of flavour. Leather, old wood, honey - its like a tasting thesaurus!!!
