This 10 year old single malt was a gold medal winner at the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. A classic from the Speyburn distillery.
A fruity nose with hints of orange, mandarin and cooking apple. A touch of oak, peppermint and spice.
A light, gentle palate with soft malt, sweet, toasty barley with liquorice and dried herbs.
Just a touch of smoke trails off on the finish.

Good value for quality
Hope this isn't a duplicate - I posted earlier and it seems to have disappeared. Anyway, the bottle I bought is dominated by the flavor of anise. Never had a malt like this before. Thankfully, it subsided some after the bottle had been open for a while, but it is still overly-influenced by that flavor. Disappointing.
Delicious. Caramel, orange and tobacco notes.. Great stuff, and at around $40 a bottle it can't be beat.

I was stocking up my holiday bar and realized I needed a single malt Scotch, yet I had a limited budget as I had other liquors and wines to buy. I consulted the proprietor of the liquor store who helped me narrow down to a Highland, but then left me on my own to choose. I went back and forth between known brands, but finally chose Speyburn. Of course I tried it as soon as I got home and, WOW, what a great surprise...I felt like the 1%.
