Secret Orkney 17 Year Old 2005 (cask DRU17/A63 #8) - Cask Strength Collection (Signatory)
A secretive single malt from an unnamed Orkney distillery, which should narrow it down a bit, well that, and the initials 'HP' on the label. This whisky was distilled in 2005 and spent 15 years maturing in a first-fill oloroso sherry butt before Signatory Vintage bottled it, without colour or chill filtration, for its Cask Strength Collection. Only 596 bottles of this one.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Waves of smoky peat, dried apricots, vanilla, and some oily pine nuts.
Palate
Dark roasted barley, with smouldering embers, floral honey, some waxy orange peel, and dried raisins.
Finish
Nutty, with lingering smoke, and peppery spice.
