Port Ellen 35 Year Old 1982 (cask 12282) - Xtra Old Particular Platinum (Douglas Laing)
Released in celebration of Douglas Laing's 70th anniversary, this sublime single malt from Port Ellen was distilled in November 1982 and matured for 35 years in a single refill butt until October 2018. It was bottled without any chill-filtration or additional colouring at 54.4% ABV for the Xtra Old Particular Platinum series, with an outturn of just 273 bottles. Superb single malt from a long-closed and legendary Islay distillery - that's certainly one way to celebrate your 70th anniversary!
Tasting Note by The Producer
Nose
Salty and initially dry – warms to soft peat, old leather and drifting wood smoke.
Palate
Mouth puckeringly salty before a big tarry phenol focus with coal dust and mocha.
Finish
Subtle – showing its Sherry history with later pepper, oil and creosote.
