Port Ellen 35 Year Old 1978 - Old & Rare Platinum (Hunter Laing)
A Hunter Laing bottling of single malt Scotch whisky from one of the most renowned closed distilleries in Scotland - Port Ellen. Distilled at the Islay distillery in September 1978 and aged in a refill butt until October 2013, when it was bottled at 35 years old with an outturn of 231 bottles. Part of Hunter Laing's Old & Rare Platinum range, and this one certainly lives up to that lofty title.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Rich with earthy peat and great wafts of coastal air.
Palate
Sweetness comes through with honey and pleasing peat. A glorious mouth feel.
Finish
Very long and rich with that sweet, rich peat and thick honey.
Overall
Port Ellen continues to impress, even while closed still (sadly).
