Though you might know the Kentucky Peerless distillery for its fantastic bourbon, did you know it also makes some remarkable rye whiskey too? We managed to scout one out and bottle it for our exclusive Master of Malt series! It was distilled in 2016, rested for three years, and then drawn from a single charred new American oak barrel. With just 84 precious bottles full of chocolate nuts, silky toffee, herbal rye, and black pepper spices, this is some seriously tasty stuff.
Toffee covered nuts and cracked black peppercorns are joined by herbal anise and oaken vanilla.
Robust layers of earthen vanilla pod, caramel, and peppery spice are supported by salty, nutty, chocolatey suggestions of Reese's Cups.
Fennel, carraway and toasted rye bread with salted butter.
No nose at all, a sniff of vanilla and a ton of alcohol, hard to get past the burn. Taste, some very slight cotton candy, vanilla, caramel, has a little `citrus` tang that high proof spirits have. Far too subtle for the high proof. Unless you like getting smacked in the mouth by light toffee apple alcohol I`d avoid it.. I`ll never finish the 2 bottles I bought and I love Rye :/ Not even sure this is rye ? No Rye flavour at all, just high proof booze.
