This 17 year old from the Pulteney distillery was a double gold winner at the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, matured in Spanish Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez casks.
The nose is clean and fresh with great balance. There is a profusion of fruit, from fruit salad with honeydew melon and pear to dried fruits, sultanas in a hot cross bun, fresh from the oven, a lightly salted butter melts over it with notes of fudge and a hint of something vaguely green. There is a lovely creaminess to the nose with notes of soft whirling smoke and crème fraîche. The palate is quite full and very sweet with sugared citrus peels and toffee. There are some notes of beeswax and honeycomb and fudge rises with malted barley and cereal sweetness. The finish is long with a herbal edge and a chewy oak.

Sweet and sour on the nose but more of just the sweet notes in the taste. Apples, pears, hard candy and hints of berries along the lines of strawberry and raspberry jam. Overall a highly enjoyable dram.

Good quality, lots of fruits, light but still complex. Not the cheapest 17yo but still a great value.

Very rich while maintaining the Old Pulteney freshness. Almost too sweet on the palate at first but gives way to a slightly less sweet and woody finish which is very long. I'd pick this up on offer without fail

The finish on this whisky is superb. So creamy, the casks have given this a great great flavor.

I cant add much to previous reviewers who note that It's light, smooth, subtle & easy to drink, yet has a deepness that make you keep enjoying trying to work out all the flavours. It's a lovely drink for both newcomers and experienced drinkers alike, and I'll have a bottle among my regulars for a long time, but not the same bottle, it wont last that long !!

Very good. I even prefer the 17yo over the 21yo.

Very subtle on the nose, but nice. Sweet and fruity. It's very smooth.I would recommend this Whisky to a newbie.

I'm no scotch beginner, but this is too complex for me to try to describe with tasting notes and feel like I did it justice. Give it time in the glass as it takes some time to open up, a few drops of water also help. This one is definitely for the more discerning single malt drinkers who would appreciate their taste buds being challenged.

I opened my bottle when my mate came round to tell me that he had 6months to live (I was always going to keep it for special occasions &this was one)We sat and savoured its magnificent flavours and long lasting taste &that was the last whisky he had and said he could now die a happy man

I agree with the reviewer who said the 17 has the best parts of the 12 and 21. In my opinion, it handily wins a head-to-head tasting with the 21. Luckily I laid in some extra bottles before it won "whisky of the year" a couple of years ago and the price went up...

I would recommend this single malt to anyone (and have!). It is soft and rounded with an excellent finish. Honey in color and a bang at the end. Awesome!

I belive Old Pulteney 17 year old is the best dram out of the 12,17,21 year old range this is because you get elements from both the 12 and 21 year old. From the 12 year old you get the honey and cream and that faint salty note and the sweet apples and pears and from the 21 you get that aged oaky note with a slight puff of smoke and fruit and spice all things nice and interestingly ozone from the sea spray that gently peppers the barrels from those coastal windy waters. No wonder the fishermen found a certain salvation in Old Pulteney after all on those long cold and wet nights at sea there's some thing familiar in this dram.

Decided to try something new today and definitely wasn't disappointed. Nice long lasting taste full of various rich notes. Would absolutely recommend to all Highland single malt lovers.

This is a fantastic dram and will stand toe to toe and beat some of the best 18 yo drams out there it's clean crisp ozone flavour is a real change from some of the finest spaysiders and I recommend you give this ago because if you haven't tried it before you will be pleasantly surprised and blown away with its complexity and depth and range of flavour!

I thought this whiskey was good, but not great. If you are wondering, Old pulteney 21 is definitely better with a longer finish and more complex body. But if you like a strong taste, this is your drink

Have had quite a few whiskies in my time but this is probably the very best I've ever had. In my book it's better than both the distllery's 21 year old and the Highland Park 18 year old. At £60 a bottle it is a veritable bargain. Buy some but leave some for me!

Arrived home ordered 17 year, best ever. Smooth strong flavors easy drinking. Order this and you never go back to another.

Simply fantastic. Superb bourbon-oak, however apparently it contains some PX casks. Maybe that's what makes it so awesome….

Recently I went to a whisky event and was looking forward to trying the old pulteney range however the 17 was missing, the 21 blew my mind but is still a bit pricey so I decided to order the 17 from mom the knowing that the 17 is on par if not better than the 21 in some peoples opinion. BOY was I glad I got the 17 it's absolutely stunning, balanced with a nice sweetness I get the delicate fruits like more of an apple and green fruit, its got that lovely saltiness they develops and the faintest whisp of smoke just how I like it. I generally enjoy most whisky styles and never re buy the same bottle after all there are soo many to try and enjoy but I will 100% be getting another of these when they're back in stock. I think I got the last because a few days after ordering mine it was out of stock! Oh well its worth the wait.

this was my first OP ever, and boy ...one of the best Single Malt Scotch whiskies i have ever tasted. it starts strong on the nose, bouquet, taste is a whole portfolio of flavours, always interplaying, and the finish long and spicey. an experience from start to finish. i am now really curious about the other expressions. are they as good?!?!
17th April 2014
This is aboslutely one of the finest whiskies I ever have had the privilage to drink. It's simply superb. The finish is sublime.

I forgot the rating on the above review. Old Pulteney 17 does have some side effects...
27th October 2013
It has an amazing scent of candied pears and lavender. The taste is even better. Imagine a jar of capers. Remove the capers and half of the liquid. Put some sugarbaked pears and a bit of seawater in the jar, along with some star anise. It doesn't sound that great, but goddamn, it makes a great dram. And no color or chill-filtration, makes this a gorgeous drink.I got two bottles stowed away, and I still wish I had more. Very highly recommended. This could be priced at £100, and I would still gladly purchase it.
new to drinking whisky and just added this to my modest 8 bottle collection got to say its a lovely dram and i will be getting another bottle very soon !!

What a great scotch! I thought I've already had the best, HP18, ARDBEG UIGEADAIL, but nope, not really. This one here offers me something special! It is delicate, sweet, salty, with a long finish. Exceptional. One of my favorites if not my favorite! I'm getting another bottle! Great whisky!
