Douglas Laing
Scotland
A well aged grain whisky from the North British distillery in Edinburgh. After distillation in July 1988, the 27 year maturation took place in a single refill barrel, with an outturn of 168 bottles at 50.2% abv in September 2015.
Bon-bons, lemonade, cream soda, honey and a touch of red chilli.
Candied peels, more sweeties (Gold Bears), golden syrup and vanilla.
More honeyed and rounded.
Quite sweet (I get the honey/cream soda/syrup references) but not too extreme for my tastes and the higher abv gives a nice spicy kick to the finish. If there were bottles available I'd buy one
No depth of flavour, nose is quite shallow too. Maybe it's because I'm not used to grain whisky but I wouldn't buy it again.
