Oak

A staggeringly good, massively rich single cask, single grain whisky, distilled at North British in 1961 and aged for a massive 50 years in oak before bottling at natural cask strength for Douglas Laing's ultra-premium Director's Cut series.
Very rich and thick with notes of sultanas and grape must. A hint of rancio perhaps, with a little almond oil, rum spice, cedar, potpourri and rhubarb and custard sweets. What a nose!
Not quite as intense as the nose would have one believe, instead this stuff is quietly complex and very classy indeed. Notes of dried fruits, something akin of umami, nutmeg and various exotic spices. Without doubt the most complex grain whisky we've ever tried.
Oak and clove-studded oranges. Sublime.
