Morrison & MacKay
A single malt Scotch whisky from an undisclosed distillery on Islay, bottled by Morrison & MacKay. The name, The Big Strand, comes from the long sandy beach way out west on the Isle of Islay.
Delightfully coastal, with hints of oily barley underneath.
The coastal theme continues on the palate, with a touch of bonfires too.
Vanilla and smoke. Some fresh fruit sweetness.

Most of the negative reviews here seem to be marking this down for it's distinctive smokeyness, seems harsh when it's reasonable to expect that from Islay whiskies. Light and crisp with a heavy amount of peat. Very easy drinking for fans of smokey whiskies, and certainly worth it's minimal cost
Cough mixture. Distillery is South Islay and very peaty:? Ardbeg. Wish I had not bought it
Feels like im drinking a liquid version of an industrial fire.
Reminiscent of delicious Ardbeg and Laphroaig whiskies with good balance of peat and smoke but less intense "iodine" flavours and hence easier drinking. Enjoyed this one a lot. Great price too.
I have to disagree with others who presumably also had this in the advent calendar. This is a nice round dram, with an oily mouthfeel and bold seaside and campfire flavors, rounded out by a nice oak flavor . It doesn’t bite much, and even less so with a small drop of water.
