A brilliant single barrel bourbon from Kentucky-based MB Roland. Distillate from a mash bill of 78% white corn, 17% rye and 5% malt found its way into a new #4 char barrel, where it stayed until the folks at MB Roland thought it was just about perfect for bottling. Only 90 bottles were produced at a punchy barrel strength of 58.2% ABV (that's 116.4 proof!), so this will make a real treat for the bourbon enthusiasts out there.
Butterkist popcorn, with sticky, spiced malt loaf, and plenty of oaky char.
Creamy vanilla and spice coming through from the oak, with drizzles of caramel and sun dried raisins.
That rye spice poking through, with lingering oak and vanilla.

Firstly, to all potential aficionados and connoisseurs of MB Roland I would recommend trying/buying the small batch MB Roland before moving onto this single barrel. Secondly, I think a 1.5 rating is very harsh from someone who has probably bought this on a whim for the first time without having previously sampled the small batch or any other MB nor given the bottle/dram time to air. Thirdly, while not as complex on the nose or palate as the last single barrel master of malt stocked(56.7%abv) it is still good and has that dried raisins and apricots finish I like with lots of pot-pourri oak spices and popcorn on the nose, caramel and thick viscosity which I find hard to put down. By the way this NO age statement straight bourbon has to be at least 4 years( equivalent to approx. 8 year old Scotch) by US law which is probably the average age of a lot of good quality bourbons on the market so to call it young is just plain misinformed in my opinion.
I bought this bottle expecting high expectations but unfortunately it didn't deliver. You can tell straight away it's a very young bourbon and the flavour profile lacks depth and is somewhat artificial to me.
