    Maker's Mark

Maker's Mark is a world-famous bourbon whisky produced in Loretto, Kentucky. The brand is known for its red wax seal, which is said to be applied by hand to each bottle.

A brilliant whisky (note: Maker's Mark is one of just a few distilleries in the US to spell whisky sans the "e"!) it is made to a mashbill first developed by Bill Samuels Sr, which uses red winter wheat instead of rye. The result, therefore, can be described as a "wheated bourbon", and it's all the more smooth and creamy because of it!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Fruity and rich. There are lovely notes of spiced honey and mixed peels, a little malmsey, hazelnut and a touch of cut fruit with toasty oak providing a backbone.

    Palate

Rich and full. There are notes of rye and spice, barley malt, a little nut oil with butterscotch and vanilla.

    Finish

Quite sweet with butterscotch and dry oak spice.

    Versatile, inexpensive crowd pleaser

This is such a well rounded, versatile bourbon and an absolute steal at under £30! The nutty, vanilla taste is unique to this brand, those are the two elements that stand out for me. There's also zero burn which is always a plus. It's perfect in any cocktail but I also have no shame in serving it neat, over ice when a guest asks for a bourbon on the rocks and it's the only bourbon I have in. It's enjoyable to slowly sip on, to truly savour all this bourbon has to offer, particularly the spicy notes that have a lovely sweet and sticky after tone. As with any good bourbon it's warming notes become like a hug in a glass. That's why neat I think of it as cold evenings by the fire and warm evenings, long in a cocktail. I also love the presentation and how they've stuck with the red wax seal as the years have gone on. You can't fault this one, it's definitely a crowd pleaser I've never met anyone who's turned their nose up to this one!

    It nice but not outstanding

Good value simple bourbon, quite rounded in flavour. Suitable for the days when you don't want to think too much and just have a drink. Yet for a couple quid more I would rather buy Wild Turkey 101 as it has way more going on on the palate. :)

    Mediocre

Sometimes this is called a "beginner's bourbon" since it lacks any overly harsh notes... but also has no actual good flavors. Old Forester and Evan Williams have better entry level bourbons for the same or even less money, and Wild Turkey 101 is a little harsh but at least has some good flavor notes that make it a solid mixer. On a good day you can get Knob Creek 9 for a few bucks more, which just kills this.

    Great

Great bourbon for the price. Has decent amount of character and is 90 proof. Its funny to read comments here like "oof too harsh for my little throat". Whiskey is probably not the drink for these guys. So anyways, if you have tried at least a couple of bourbons in your lifetime, this one will not dissappont you.

    Classic

A solid bourbon at 45%, especially for the newcomers. Simple butterscotch and hazelnut notes. Versatile and attractively priced in the UK.
