In 2023, Lochlea distillery celebrated its fifth birthday by collaborating with Glasgow-based Overtone Brewing Co, loaning the brewery six whisky casks to mature its first double-mash stout. The collection included three bourbon barrels, two STR casks, and one oloroso sherry butt, and after the stout had matured, the casks were returned and refilled with Lochlea's Our Barley single malt for a further year of maturation. This is a marriage of the whisky drawn from three of those casks, bottled at a hearty ABV of 52%, it's an exciting find for whisky fans who also enjoy a good imperial stout.

I'm a huge fan of Lochlea. A young distillery that consistently delivers far beyond their youth. The stout cask finish to what was an already good dram (Our Barley) adds flavours like dark chocolate and coffee and burnt bits while retaining much of the bright and fruity flavours of the pre-stout-cask whisky P.S. Look into these guys - it's a real passion project and deserves a lot of love
