A Lowland single malt from Glasgow brand King's Inch, this 8-year-old Scotch whisky was bottled from a vatting of bourbon and sherry casks, selected specifically to be presented at a younger age. Barley from Scotland's west coast, narrow cut points in the distillation (for a fruity, light spirit) and fresh (or even wet) casks give King's Inch 8 Year Old Single Malt Whisky its character. It's bottled at 46% ABV without chill-filtration.
Sweet and fresh with apple pie, vanilla custard, barley, cinnamon, tropical fruit, and lots of honey drizzled over oak.
Oaky and warm at first with a slick liquorice/marzipan note right at the point of entry too. It mellows into nutty, creamy, sweeter notes with orange peel, shortbread, and mango.
A crack of black pepper gives the finish a little savoury spice with figs and orange chocolate in the backdrop.

The none-age-statement version is one of my favourite whiskies. So I was looking forward to the 8 year old - but what a disappointment! Where is the mellowness of the predecessor? This is harsh, hot, fiery and lacking in flavour. What went wrong???
