    Johnnie Walker Blue Label

The Johnnie Walker Blue Label story begins in 1987 when the Distillers Company launched Johnnie Walker Oldest. It quickly became known as Blue Label, for obvious reasons, and was a blend of rare malt and grain whiskies bottled without an age statement with stylishly retro packaging that echoed the 19th century Johnnie Walker bottle.

Though expensive, or perhaps because it was expensive, it proved an instant hit. By 1997, it was selling 50,000 cases globally. As a known currency throughout the world, it’s perhaps the ultimate gift whisky. You know you’ve done a good job or your in-laws approve when you receive a bottle.

Blue Label is drawn from unparalleled Diageo reserves of maturing malt and grain whiskies from across four regions (Highland, Lowland, Speyside, and Islay), including ghost distilleries, that Johnnie Walker has privileged access to. Whatever the exact blend, a consistent flavour profile that’s a beautiful balance of rich, slightly smoky, and fruity elements.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Fragrant with good body. Notes of oak, crisp spice, dried fruit, pastries. Berry fruits, aniseed, hints of cedar, a touch of spice and citrus.

    Palate

Supple and balanced. Good toffee and hints of very wistful smoke. Chocolate, hints of grass and a good hit of malt.

    Finish

Floral, oaky, good length, urged on by a plume of very well-kept, highland style smoke. Dried fruit, spice, honey.

    Overall

One of the ultimate premium blends, Blue Label is a legend in its own right and will continue to be.

    Just OK

Paid $120 at a duty free shop in Budpest's airport while the dollar was strong. At first it's great stuff, but when compared side by side with some much cheaper single malts including NAS offerings, it just doesn't hold up. On it's own, it's probably worth $100, but highly overpriced as it is.

    Cheaper and better out there.

Bought a 200 as too stingy to get a big bottle, pleased I did, what is the fuss about I find it a bit insipid. Prefer the JW Black, half the price, twice the dram.

As far as blended scotch goes pretty decent but to high of a price

To the one who wrote dip spit, you are a idiot. You admit you don't drink scotch so then you don't know how to compare scotches. You drink crown reserve and that is a child's drink so STHU. Now my taste in scotchs is single malt, I enjoy them a lot more than blended scotch. But for a blended scotch it is pretty decent, but yes it is over priced for what it is. In the states a bottle will run you between $200 - about $ 375 depending what state so yes it is over priced but as I said for a blended it's pretty decent. In the JW's it is the best or number 2, if you want cheaper don't go below black label because you won't drink it. Unfortanly in JW's to get a decent blended scotch you will pay more. I do believe that you should keep a bottle in your cabinet just to have once in a while or for your buddy's who do like a blended scotch.

    Overprices for sure!

Pick up a bottle today as a present to myself. Been experimenting with some top shelf whiskies and all I can say is spending more is not always better. I have been looking for something smooth to sip on and this isn't bad on being smooth, a little sharp and bitter. The aftertaste really leaves something to be desired as all I get is a charred/burnt wood taste and not much else. I was hesitant on buying and should have stopped when that thought of the high price went through my head.
