Isle of Harris Hearach

Whisky from the Isle of Harris is here! The Hearach single malt whisky is made using soft Outer Hebridean waters from the Abhainn Cnoc a ’Charrain, which runs over the oldest rocks on earth, and 100% Scottish Concerto barley that was lightly peated at 12-15ppm using peat cut by hand at 'Cleite Mhòr', an area of South Harris where peat has been harvested for generations. This Scotch also benefits from a long fermentation that runs for up to five days, as well as maturation for at least five years in three cask types, Fino butts, first-fill bourbon, and oloroso sherry casks. The island's unique climate will also play a big role in the profile of The Hearach, which was bottled at 46% ABV without chill-filtration or any additional colouring.

Please note: There are various batches of this whisky within our stock, unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee which batch you will receive, but we can guarantee that they're all equally delicious!

Reviews for Isle of Harris - The Hearach
A triumph on the gin
A fine example of Harris whisky. If you have tried the gin you will know of the quality this distillery can produce. Smooth to the first taste to the last taste.

We love their gin, so……..
This “came up” as I bought their gin, so I thought I would give it a go. First thing; it has an iconic packaging and matches the “feel/impact” of their gin. Smooth, a hint of smoke, some “ seaweedy “ element? Truly nice without being OTT smoke/peat

TIME WILL TELL ……..
The novelty bottle is exactly what you would expect from a seriously overpriced 5 year old single malt …….Sadly it doesn’t even come close to the competition at this price range and as one reviewer has pointed out ,the gimmicky packaging is questionable to say the least ,

I like this a lot
I visited this distillery before the first release and loved the ethos. I got Batch 1 and the first glass was nice, but nothing special. Three weeks later poured another glass and this has really grown on me. Bearing in mind it is only a little over 5-years-old I love the delicate complexity. To put this into context, my normal tipple is Uigeadail and a'Bunadh so this whisky is competing at a fairly high bar for me. I will be intrigued to see what a 10-year-old will be like in time. Promising.

Belter
Struggled to get hold of this but when I did it was worth the wait. Batch 11 for me, beautifully balanced, quaffable and a lovely soft peaty finish. Vanilla and apple on the nose. Buy. But now!

Long Awaited Harris Malt Whisky
Just purchased batch 8 of this and after all the hype I am underwhelmed to say the least.I was maybe wrongly expecting a lot more.I know it was going to be lightly peated but for me it is lacking depth and character.I certainly have had better bottlings from newer distilleries eg Torabhaig hope it's spelled right and Lindores Abbey ,along with Ardnamurchan.Work in progress I know but not what I expected.Sorry Harris but there we are.☹️

Long Awaited
There’s been a lot of hype. Is it any good? For me it has bags of personality and there’s complexity despite its youth. Smoky, almost Calvados note at times, fresh acids offset to a degree by honey. You notice the spirit. Not for those who like their whisky smooth and unthreatening but more for the adventurous…which means I’m very happy with my bottle. Scary box though, potentially your bottle could fall out.
