Douglas Laing
Scotland
Invergordon grain whisky matured in a single cask for half a century! Distilled in November 1964, this Master of Malt full bottle exclusive (also included as 3cl drams in a proportion of Drinks by the Dram's 2015 Whisky Advent Calendar) was bottled by Douglas Laing in 2015 as part of their extra excellent Xtra Old Particular range.
Honey-drenched porridge, coffee bean and cacao powder. Lingering hints of old oak (as you would expect from a 50 year old whisky!).
A very luxurious mouthfeel. Bourbon-esque as it opens, with caramel and buttered toast. Develops almost Cognac-like rancio/vegetal notes later on.
Biscotti dipped in Crème de cassis.
This is the first whisky I've had in a long time that actually has the sweetness of a bourbon; the closest approximation is a Pappy Van Winkle 21 year. Absolutely amazing; had it as a dram in the Advent Calendar. Looking forward to this becoming available again....
