A great introduction to Highland Park's famed heathery peat smoke, the 12 Year Old is matured predominantly in sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, so it's spicy, citrusy, and full of smoky aromatics. This is part of the Orcadian distillery's impressive core range, which was treated to a smart new look in 2024.
Fresh, clean and very aromatic. Floral notes abound the senses with a light grassiness. Notes of creamy Manuka honey and a touch of juicy citrus with cream and a well-balanced sweetness.
Rather full with a pleasant depth. Lurking somewhere in the substratum a grilled orange lies. Notes of granary toast and green tea with jasmine. A touch of sweetness.
Quite long with peppery spice and wood shavings.

A pleasant whisky, dark oranges with a hint of peat at the nose, a mix of creamy fruity cake and spiciness at the palate, a medium-long finish, spicy and quite bitter. I would have preferred a final Balvenie 12-like, but this is a peated one..I found pleasant to have a sip after lunch, especially after some fruit (oranges, etc). For a 12 year is quite complex, perhaps some cannot like it, anyway an interesting result.
Not been a fan of Highland Park's lower priced whisky but this is a revelation. For the price it is superb!
Light and sweet but also with a good punch of peppery flavour. Hint of smoke. Think the other reviews must have had a bad batch!
This is a solid whiskey & the third bottle I have bought of this in the last 4yrs. There’s some smoke on the pallet and a sweet honey finish. A decent dram, and very moreish! I’m Surprised by all the negative comments!
For the price, don’t think twice.
