Single Malt
1 Jan 2016
Tasmanian single malt here from Hellyers Road, selected for the New Vibrations range by La Maison du Whisky. The peated vintage 2016 single malt was aged in a single cask (cask 16315.10) for six years before it was bottled at an enormous 70.1% ABV. You might want a drop of water with this one.
Rich, spirited. Notes of wax, acacia honey, verbena and aniseed nuance a vegetal, medicinal (ointment), salty, marine (seaweed) and rooty peat. Allowed to breathe, the aroma palette becomes more medicinal (elastoplast), empyreumatic (turpentine, coal) and animal (bacon).
Lively yet subtle. On the attack, vanilla, infused (verbena) and fruity (William’s pear) flavours lead into a liquorice, lush and salty peat that then becomes chocolatey and oily. The end of the palate is gravelly and terpenic (sleet, lava).
Long, dynamic. Notes of cut hay, white mint and agave milk refresh the palate. Confirming the peat’s herbal and rooty (ginger) evolution, the after-taste gradually becomes mineral (slate), spicy (clove, nutmeg) and chocolatey.

A wopping 70 % and good for hitting Covid with & tastes better when your sense of smell comers back . Probably good for toothache Much prefer the 15 yo slightly peated Definitely needs a few drops of water unless you are fit & fearless or Totally Mad which I usually am The one good thing about it is ls that it will a last quite some time ---unless I let my alcoholic friends loose on this Needs to be taken with Caution
