Hailing from Tasmanian distillery Hellyers Road, this peated single malt spent 19 years maturing in a single American oak cask. It was bottled up at a robust 69.9% ABV for La Maison du Whisky's New Vibrations collection.
Rich, dense. Combining rich peat, castor oil and ash, the first nose takes on animal tones (leather, bacon). Allowed to breathe, it becomes increasingly medicinal (tiger balm) and empyreumatic (sleet, turpentine). Fragrances of roasted apple, curry and roasted pineapple are then released.
Powerful, lively. On the attack, the same oily peat permeates the palate, filled with mineral salts and marine plants. The acrid yet heady flavours of Havana cigar then take over the flavour palette, gradually covering it in intense smoke and ash.
Long, rich. Chocolate and vanilla notes rival each other in intensity. Peat takes control of the infinitely smooth palette of flavours. Candied pear and heady florals (mimosa, nasturtium) appear alongside especially crisp malted flavours in the after-taste.
