Haig Club Clubman Bottling Note

When we first heard about the initial Haig Club being released with David Beckham we had a discussion at MoM Towers about what the price point would be. When it was eventually announced, however, it was quite a bit higher than the whiskies we'd previously assumed they'd be competing with. That's where Haig Club Clubman comes in, which will be the more "mainstream" variant.

The Clubman, a single grain Scotch whisky distilled at Cameronbridge and matured in ex-bourbon casks, is designed to be enjoyed with cola.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Inoffensive vanilla, nougat and caramel notes. With Beckham behind it, we can see plenty of vodka coke drinkers making the switch to Clubman and not looking back.

Haig Club Clubman Reviews

Nasty.

Harsh. Can sell for a ridiculous price. Grouse can be half the price and 5 times as good. Nice bottle has deceived me twice, never again!

Ideal gift for someone you do not like.

My mother always told me that if you can not say anything nice about a person, then do not say anything.
This "whisky"? ..................................

It Is What It Is.

If you are a whisk(e)y fan buying this to drink as you would a decent single malt, a quality Irish dram or an artisanal bourbon you'll be severely disappointed. But for anyone who has actually looked up the drink (and its target audience) it basically meets expectations. I bought a 70cl bottle for £17 and as a mixer in that price range it is absolutely fine. On its own it is the epitome of "meh". As part of a cocktail/"X" and coke it isn't overpowering and does the job.

Bought out of curiosity, disappointing

Umm...how to be polite about this. You can get better for the price. Pale in color, not much complexity to it probably best mixed with something.

Awful for the price

I bought my first and last bottle of Haig Club Clubman last night. I only bought it because I was late to the shops, my usual outlet was closed, and I thought I’d give it a go as it couldn’t be that bad for £28 right? Wrong, I should have bought Grouse for half the price as that would’ve been 10 times nicer! Even some Glen Dhu from Spar would’ve tasted better. Anemic colour, very little flavour, but what flavour there was wasn’t nice, 2 glasses with ice (second one just to make sure) and a splitting headache this morning. Any whisky saying it needs mixing with Coke on the tasting notes doesn’t deserve to exist. If I want to get through the bottle I’ll have to try that, but for £28 I am really really disappointed.

I just want to mix drinks with it, so easy and tasty

If I want a whisky that's strong and punchy I go for Lagavulin, Ardbeg or Talisker10.
However I was introduced to this as a mixing scotch, and I think it is truly great!
Not using vodka in Espresso Martini cocktails anymore, as this makes a tastier drink by far and my friends were surprised.
Also if you make a pitcher with elderflower and ginger cordial, a bit of fresh green apple juice and soda. It made me be able to share whisky with people that aren't diehard drinkers for lunch and early dinners.
You gotta look at what you can do with it. it's not a fireplace whisky sipper it's more a party whisky for me

Nice bottle, passable mixing whiskey

It's absolutely fine for mixing with a ginger ale or cocktails, on its own it is a bit uneventful and forgettable, however having said all that if I'm buying whiskey for mixing then this is great, it is what it is as they say.

Not Great, Not Terrible

There are a few here saying it's barely whisky but I disagree. You can very easily pick out the vanilla in the palate and the bourbon in the finish- although that's about all. Honestly fine on it's own for getting quickly gone, there's very little booziness to this, and on ice or with a mixer it's just fine. At this price, though, the bottle is great to use with a wine cork as a decanter. Will not be buying another bottle (I prefer Jameson as a mixer and I don't often mix) and not even close to competition with decent scotches or even cheap bourbons, but the bottle is emptying quickly.

Not good at all

The second whisky I’ve had to pour down the drain after Grants Family reserve. It tastes like vaguely whisky flavoured water, absolutely no substance to it.

Ok

It's designed for mixing and is pretty good at it very light would recommend to people who say they don't like whiskey or women or new whisky drinkers. Don't listen to all the snobbery it's not as bad as bells or famous grouse
