Glenallachie 40 Year Old 1972 (cask 8217) - Directors' Cut (Douglas Laing)

This is a stunning forty year old Glenallachie from an ex-sherry cask bottled as part of Douglas Laing's Director's Cut range. Mind blowing stuff indeed.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

This is a big sherry cask fruit-bomb of a whisky. Cherries of multiple varieties, orange zest, all chased down with lower tones of soft leather and tree bark.

Palate

The palate is gloriously thick and mouth-coating. The fresh fruits become dried and pedro ximenez sherry lolls about the mouth in a chocolatey mess.

Finish

A spicy conclusion to this fruity dram, with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and cardamom.

Overall

This is a massive, highly aged, sherry cask whisky. Quite frankly what's not to like?
