Sherry

A rare glimpse into the underrated world of Glen Spey, this 9-year-old single malt from Signatory’s 100 Proof Edition was distilled in 2015 and matured exclusively in first-fill oloroso sherry butts, enhancing its naturally light and fruity spirit with bold layers of dried fruit, spice, and oak richness. It was bottled at 100 Proof (57.1% ABV), un-chill-filtered, and with no added colour. A full-flavoured take on a Speyside sleeper hit.
Ripe red berries, cinnamon-dusted apples, and toasted nuts.
Stewed plums, dark chocolate, and nutmeg spice, balanced by Glen Spey’s bright fruitiness.
Warm and lingering, with hints of oak, dried fruit, and a touch of citrus zest.

Over the years, I've had quite a few Glen Speys and they've always been good. This one, too, did not disappoint. Sometimes a whisky can be overwhelmed by a first fill Oloroso butt - this is not the case here. Yes, it's a sherry bomb but is so much more: there's fruit (dried and fresh), nuts and some gentle spice. What's most impressive is how smooth it is. A beautiful Christmas sipper - or anytime, for that matter.
