Girvan Distillery was built by William Grant and Sons (from that there Glenfiddich) to produce grain whisky for their popular Grant's Blend. However, Clan Denny have bottled a single cask of forty-six year old Girvan in its own right, so you can enjoy it outside of the blend it calls home.
Grain whisky is becoming more and more popular as people become canny to its amazing value for money. By the nature of grain whisky it requires a lot longer in cask than malt whisky to make it palatable hence why they are usually bottled in excess of twenty years old, however they are also a lot cheaper to make - long story short you get old whisky at a better price!
Hazelnut, vanilla and gooseberry aromas leap out of the glass at first before sweet demerara sugar notes join the chorus.
Vanilla ice cream, rum-soaked raisins and nutmeg roll over the palate at first before poached pears and baked apples arrive.
Sweet spices and a hint of marzipan close this fabulous whisky, in a long and rounded finish.
This whisky has a plethora of flavours all harmonising with one another. This Girvan is a fantastic example of an aged grain whisky.
