Yula 21 Year Old (Douglas Laing)
This is the second release in Douglas Laing's Yula trilogy - a 21 year old blended malt made with whiskies from Islay and the Islands. The name comes from the Norse goddess Yula, who searched for her long lost love with an apron full of stones (which would become islands - the last stone would become Islay, which is Yula's resting place).
Tasting Note by The Producer
Nose
On the nose, catch an ozone clean style and sea spray with a later drift of gentle peat.
Palate
The palate carries a real sweet, butterscotch’d quality ahead of a gristy, charred wood, BBQ, ash and softly-sooted character.
Finish
Those tones are all as apparent on the finish, plus burnt, sweet toast, herbal cough-drops and the gentlest of phenols.
