Reviews for Dewar's 12 Year Old
A very pleasant surprise.
This, along with Monkey Shoulder, Famous Grouse, and Artist's Blend, is a staple in my "blend cabinet". Classic Speyside. I like it neat too, or with a little water. Very smooth and it mixes well. A bit like Artist's Blend, but less alcohol bite. Reasonably priced too.

Real whisky? Yeah. I'll go with that.
I have a soft spot for Dewars. I like their style. I admire the fact that that they are unafraid of grain whiskies. And of course, there is actually nothing to be afraid of. The Ancestor is sweet, with a touch of bite, and it has the standard honey/vanilla/grass notes of Dewar's, but is has just a bit more malt, a bit more age, a bit more character than White label. I think of it as a cheap Royal Lochnagar for its straightforward nature. It doesn't pretend. And it doesn't have to.

Definitely a step up from White Label
Nose: Malt, honey, banana
Palate: Silky honeyed malt, turning into citrus and then faintest hint of black pepper
Finish: Spices, an extremely brief kiss of peat, more malt, mint and spices as it fades

Great Taste / Great Value
I drink all my Scotch neat. I drank Johnny Walker Black for years - and still enjoy when I can't get Dewar's 12. Dewar's 12 is my go to Scotch now for both flavor and value. I do not like Dewar's 15. I still enjoy Johnny Walker Gold.
