    Connemara Peated

Arguably the most important peated Irish whiskey, Connemara was the first in the modern era of renaissance to remind folks that Irish whiskey can be smoky. In fact, it often was, and Connemara Peated Whiskey is inspired by the whiskies that would have been made over the centuries in Ireland in areas like the one that gives the expression its name. Turf (as the Irish often call peat) was what was available to the early whiskey makers, so prior to the 20th century, peated whiskey was commonplace in Ireland. Connemara whiskey is produced at the famous Cooley Distillery and has a distinct but still delicate smokiness, balanced by a smooth texture and sweet taste. This profile has been highly decorated, receiving over 20 medals from major spirits competitions since 2012.

    is it me or...

I think Connemara (one of my top-three choices, until recently) lost some of its nose, body and finish, and generally tastes more watery. Have been enjoying it over 10 years, and the difference is both striking and lamentable. Anybody with similar observations? (Either my taste buds have been usurped by Islay, or we have an inferior batch sold to Russia).

Great Smoky Aroma; Light Flavor; Quick Finish

The nose: smoky, grassy fields, grapes. The Palette: very minimal taste, quick leather and fairly heavy barley, then light lemon, but overwith quickly. The Finish: leather for a few brief moments and then a light lemon before fading out. Overall a very mild drink that packs initial smoky peat aromas and then when drank loses almost all heft to become a clean, light, briefly flavored dram. The wife liked its lightness but i found it quickly gone flavor wise and though smooth not a deep sipping dram for my particular tastes.

    dashing stuff

Wonderful stuff ! Floral malty and a peat profile that is all its own not at all like a islay peated scotch, highly recommended for those with a experienced palate and open to savor something rather unique :)

    for the connoisseur

People who are bashing om the fine irish whisky should really explore the world of whiskys and come back to this one after theyve gained enough experience. .maturity! It is wonderful stuff reminds me of a summer day in a field on the coast if new Brunswick, not at all the same as a peated scotch it is in a league all its own, great stuff!!!

    Superb Whiskey!

Impressed with this! It smells like turf briquettes and charcoal with a delicious, almost dark chocolate, smokey flavour. A long and very pleasant after taste follows. Excellent whiskey. Couldn't recommend it enough!
