Arguably the most important peated Irish whiskey, Connemara was the first in the modern era of renaissance to remind folks that Irish whiskey can be smoky. In fact, it often was, and Connemara Peated Whiskey is inspired by the whiskies that would have been made over the centuries in Ireland in areas like the one that gives the expression its name. Turf (as the Irish often call peat) was what was available to the early whiskey makers, so prior to the 20th century, peated whiskey was commonplace in Ireland. Connemara whiskey is produced at the famous Cooley Distillery and has a distinct but still delicate smokiness, balanced by a smooth texture and sweet taste. This profile has been highly decorated, receiving over 20 medals from major spirits competitions since 2012.
Well-smoked and peated, heather freshness and floral notes with a honeyed sweetness and a little wood.
Full and smooth with notes of malt and peat, honeyed smoke and barley sweetness.
Long and pungent with honey and peat smoke.

This is the reason I stopped drinking Scotch. This peated Irish is a little like drinking liquid smoke. I will go back to the sweet taste so Bushmills.
Decided to give it a go after finding it at the airport for just 18£, and I am glad I did not spend more for it. I see myself joining the "no effing way - team", and here's why: being used to scotch peated classics, I wanted to try something different, and Connemara Peated seemed the most reasonable thing to try in order to follow a logical sequence. All I found was an overly sugary base with what feels like being an added aroma of watery peat, on the nose as well as the palate. The smoke is overly pervasive, and only after 15 minutes in the glass and a proper swirl of the tongue I could be able to taste something else, which was just layers and layers of flat honey. Such disappointment. But seeing such opposed opinions, my only suspect is that for some reason there has been a shipment of bad bottles all around the world. I might try it again in a couple of years time to see if I am wrong.
I was introduced to Connemara by an Irish bar owner in New Orleans (go figure) and I am forever grateful. I have long been an ardent fan of Laphroaig 10-year-old Scotch whiskey for its rich, peaty, smoky flavor and Connemara is the first whiskey I've found from anywhere that can stand up to Laphroaig. Connemara is not better, mind, but certainly Laphroaig's equal and with a flavor all its own. If you like Laphroaig or any of the other peaty malts from Islay, you owe it to yourself to try Connemara.
I like the balance of peat, smoke and sweetness. It also has a nice herbal note and a bit of moss to it. I thought it was a fine one for brisk afternoon.
it's so beatyful - well balance with smoky & fruits, easy to drink and enjoy every drop!
