Caperdonich 23 Year Old Oloroso Cask Finish (Darkness)

Caperdonich 23 Darkness Bottling Note

A particularly sublime sherried single malt from the Caperdonich Distillery, independently bottled for the Darkness range! It's a 23 year old expression from the closed distillery, which has enjoyed a finishing period in a specially-coopered Oloroso sherry octave cask, imparting a wealth of dark fruit and festive spice notes, as well as the dark ruby hue.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Powerful (though well-balanced) notes of ripe cherry and cigar box, with a hint of toasted oak sneaking in too.

Palate: Stewed plums and poached pears, toffee syrup on vanilla ice cream, a kick of gingerbread too.

Finish: Lasting mature oak and sherry-soaked fruit.

Too bitter for me
I have bought and enjoyed other whiskeys from the Darkness range. Had high hopes of this offering. It is a beautiful colour and on first opening the bottle there was an unmistakable sherry nose together with rich vanilla. Tasting was somewhat disappointing, little of the sherry sweetness survived, nor did I taste much fruit there was smoke of the cigar variety as well as oak but my overwhelming impression was of burned wood, way to bitter for my taste, in fact unpleasantly so
