A cracking Caol Ila from indie bottler North Star Spirits' Cask Series 20. Distilled in 2014, the eight-year-old single malt was drawn from a Port octave in 2022. Expect plenty of jammy red fruit and meaty smoke here. A release of 220 bottles.
Hearty layers of peat smoke, earthen ash, and stewed berries, with roasted barley and hints of marmalade in tow.
Peppery oak and meaty smoke accompany redcurrant jelly, drying oak, and old leather, with bonfire embers crackling away in the depths.
Lingering peat and ash are bolstered by a balance of warming spice and vinous fruit.
